Diagnostics, repair and installation of autonomous heaters

An autonomous heater is a special device that provides additional heating of the engine and the interior of the car before starting it, making it easier to start in the cold season.

At the same time, the presence of an autonomous heater significantly reduces engine wear, which sharply increases in winter during the warm-up period. Structurally, it consists of a control unit (ECU), a combustion chamber, a heat exchanger and two pumps that supply fuel and circulate the coolant.

If any of the elements fails, the device fails and an autonomous heater needs to be repaired or replaced altogether. In Riga this work can be done by DVS auto specialists.

The main types of malfunction of autonomous heaters and ways to eliminate them

The most common problems with the auxiliary heater are:

  • the auxiliary heater does not start;
  • any failures in progress;
  • after starting the device immediately stalls.

The inability to start the autonomous heater can be associated with both the failure of the equipment itself and, as often happens, with poor fuel quality. In the latter case, the filter mesh becomes clogged, which prevents proper flow.

In addition, low-quality fuel leads to the appearance of soot on the plug, which leads to its overheating and failure of the additional heater.

Insufficient dosage of fuel can also be associated with strong thickening during severe frost, when it physically cannot pass through the pipeline in the required amount.

The autonomous heater can stall as a result of any errors or malfunctions in the ECU system. You can determine their presence during diagnostics at a car service. During which the general condition of the device is assessed. The electric part of the heater is ringing and any errors are detected.

After receiving the results, the scope of work and the cost of repairs are determined.
