How often should I change my fuel filter?
The basic DVSAuto service manual calls for changing the fuel filter for diesel engines every 30,000 km, and for gasoline vehicles every 90,000 km. More details can be found at the link.
Fuel Filter Replacement Price
There are generally two types of filters:
- outboard, which are built into the fuel line;
- submersible, which are located in the fuel tank.
The service cost includes the mechanic's labor and the cost of the filter itself. Submersible fuel filters are more difficult to replace because they are located in a more difficult-to-reach place. Therefore, labor costs are usually higher.
As for the price of the filters themselves, genuine parts will, of course, be the most expensive. Next, we can identify the premium segment, including brands like Knecht, MANN, and Fram. Skimping on filters is not worth it. Low-quality consumables are more likely to cause defects, which will cost a pretty penny out of all proportion to the savings.
